Dosing Systems

Automatic gravimetric powder and liquid dosing that feeds mixers and silos to the recipe.

Why automate dosing?

A PVC formulation contains many components besides the resin: calcium carbonate filler, stabilisers, impact modifiers, lubricants, pigments and, in soft PVC, plasticisers. Weighing them by hand, sack by sack, brings three unavoidable problems: recipe errors, material waste and blend quality that changes from shift to shift. Open weighing also means dust in the mixing room and a heavy labour load.

An automatic dosing system takes the recipe out of the operator's hands. Each component is weighed to the recipe stored in the control system and sent straight to the mixer, a silo or the extruder. The result is repeatable batches, less waste and a cleaner production floor.

Gravimetric vs volumetric dosing

There are two basic dosing methods:

  • Volumetric dosing measures material by volume, for example the amount a screw delivers in a given time or number of turns. It is simple and economical, but its accuracy depends on bulk density. When moisture, particle size or compaction changes, the same volume means a different weight.
  • Gravimetric dosing measures material by weight. Weigh hoppers sit on load cells and the control system stops the feed when the target weight is reached. Because it is not affected by density changes, it stays true to the recipe.

PVC dry blend recipes are defined by weight ratios (phr), so additive levels have to be held precisely. That is why Erk PVC Makine's dosing systems are gravimetric.

Our dosing systems

Automatic powder dosing system

The automatic powder dosing system weighs PVC resin, calcium carbonate, stabilisers and other powder additives gravimetrically to the recipe. Raw materials are drawn from silos or day bins, weighed and charged into the heating mixer. Recipe preparation becomes hands-free: the operator selects the recipe and monitors the process.

Automatic liquid dosing system

The automatic liquid dosing system weighs liquid additives such as plasticisers and liquid stabilisers, used mainly in soft (plasticised) PVC. It works in step with powder dosing, adding the liquid to the blend at the right point in the mixer cycle. It suits soft PVC applications such as cable, hose, film and flooring.

Powder and liquid together: one recipe, one control

Bringing powder and liquid dosing under one control lets you manage the recipe as a whole:

  • Every batch weighs all components from the same recipe, in the same sequence
  • Liquid additives go in in step with the heating stage of the powder blend
  • Recipe changes are made in one place, reducing the risk of using the wrong component
  • Weighing data can be recorded, making production easier to trace

Integration with mixers, silos and extruders

Dosing sits at the very start of the line and sets the efficiency of every step after it. In a typical line, weighed raw material enters the hot-cold PVC mixer, and the finished dry blend is transferred to silos or the extruder hopper by feeding and conveying equipment. Erk PVC Makine does not build extruders; we design and install the full dosing → mixing → conveying → sieving → feeding chain in front of the extruder from a single source.

If you already have a mixer, dosing can be retrofitted. We review the mixer's charging point, your raw material storage and your control infrastructure, then engineer a layout that fits.

Who is it for?

  • PVC profile and pipe producers running several formulations
  • Cable and compound plants using plasticisers and liquid stabilisers
  • Flooring, film and sheet lines
  • Any plant that wants to cut the waste and quality swings that come with hand weighing

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between gravimetric and volumetric dosing?

Volumetric dosing measures material by volume, so its accuracy depends on bulk density. Gravimetric dosing measures material by weight using load cells and is not affected by density changes. Because PVC recipes are defined by weight ratios, gravimetric dosing is the preferred method.

Can powders and liquids be dosed by the same system?

Yes. The automatic liquid dosing system works in step with powder dosing. Liquid additives such as plasticisers and liquid stabilisers are weighed from the same recipe and added to the blend at the right point in the mixer cycle.

Can automatic dosing be retrofitted to my existing mixer?

Yes. We review your mixer's charging point, raw material storage and control infrastructure and integrate the dosing system into your existing line. Where needed, we supply silos and conveying equipment in the same scope.

How many raw materials can be dosed?

The number of components depends on your formulations and your plant's storage layout. Each system is engineered around the powders and liquids you use; send us your recipe list and we will propose a configuration.

What are the benefits of automatic dosing?

It reduces recipe errors and material waste from hand weighing, removes batch-to-batch quality variation, and lowers labour and dust in the mixing room. Recording weighing data also makes production easier to trace.
